ALFRED DE BREANSKI 19th century/early 20th century
Saltire Gallerie currently has four paintings by the de Breanski family of artists.The largest by de Breanski Sr is of the famous woodland where scenes from Harry Potter were filmed. Gustav, Alfred's brother is most known for his oil paintings of raging seas. Alfred F de Breanski Jr learned his craft from his father and Uncle Gustav, painting both landscapes and seas. We have a serene and lovely landscape on offer, and a particularly beautiful seaside painting titled Summer Evening. In Summer Evening de Breanski Jr demonstrates his influence from impressionism in his use of color, light and shapes. The reflections in the water are particularly fine.
Scottish Art in our collection includes 20th century work by renowned Artists. Perhaps the most famous artist outside Scotland is Jack Vettriano, whose work became a favorite in Hollywood for his unique 'film noir' style. Vettriano sadly passed away in March. retrospective exhibit of his life works this summer. This is a painting with the Edinburgh mount in the background, a man attired in typical Vettriano fashion touching the shoulder of a woman in red, looking down from the window, aptly titled ‘Looking Down from Above’. This work SOLD in December this year.
